Spring is upon us, which means I'm back to running my favourite fun run series - Spring into Shape! This year marks my fifth Spring into Shape series. So why do I keep going back?

Purely, it's the ATMOSPHERE!

From the moment you walk onto the manicured lawns of the Alexandra Gardens, you're greeted with fun, uplifting beats pumping from the main stage. The MC spends the morning encouraging all participants to have a good run and it's hard not to get swept up in his enthusiasm!

Looking around the crowd of runners, you feel instantly like you belong. There are runners of all shapes and sizes, and runners of all ages. I can honestly tell you that I was so nervous - like, vomit inducing butterflies nervous - before my first run. I had it all - dry throat, inability to talk, teeth chattering, skin crawling and blurred vision. I thought I'd be the last finisher, for sure!

But I can tell you, that wasn't the case. And from that moment on, I was hooked!

I was hooked to being pushed along by the crowd. I was hooked to the support along the course - there are volunteers all around the course holding motivational signs and cheering you on. I was hooked to aiming for PBs each race. I was hooked to 'checking' (passing) other runners ahead of me. I was hooked to running through the finish chute to see what my time was!

I may not be the fastest at the moment, but I'll be a monkey's uncle if I'm going to give up!

You'll never know what you can achieve if you aren't pushed. If you've ever wanted to try a fun run, the Spring into Shape series is a great starting point. The next race is on Sunday 25th October. Will I see you there?
